Concrete is one of the most important materials used in a house foundation and structural elements. Its quality directly affects the strength and durability of the building.
Good concrete must have the correct composition and be properly prepared, transported and placed. However, there are several signs on the construction site that may indicate potential problems.
Concrete that is too watery may indicate that too much water has been added, which can reduce its strength after hardening. Excessive water on the surface, segregation of the mix and separation of the aggregate are also signs that should be checked.
After hardening, concrete with many voids, weak or crumbly areas, surfaces that easily break away or unusual cracks may indicate problems with the mix or the construction process.
However, appearance alone cannot confirm whether concrete is actually good or bad. Its strength should be verified through laboratory testing and documentation showing the concrete class and material compliance.
For structural elements, it is therefore important to use the concrete class specified in the project and to control both the delivered material and the placing and curing process.
